How to Open AVIF Files: Complete Guide for Any Device

Opening AVIF on Windows
On Windows 10 (version 1903 or later) and Windows 11, AVIF support is built-in! Just double-click the file, and it will open in the Photos app. If for some reason it doesn't work, you might need to install the "AV1 Video Extension" from the Microsoft Store.
Opening AVIF on Mac
macOS Big Sur (11.0) and later have native AVIF support. Double-click any AVIF file, and it will open in Preview. You can also use Quick Look to view AVIF files by selecting them and pressing the spacebar.
Opening AVIF on Android and iOS
Modern Android and iOS devices have excellent AVIF support. On Android, Google Photos and most gallery apps will open AVIF files natively. On iOS, the Photos app can view AVIF images starting with iOS 16.
